Why You'll Love This Recipe
- There are only four simple ingredients, just enough to hold the cake together and make it delicious for your good boy or girl!
- You're avoiding harmful ingredients that might be in a store-bought dog cake. This recipe for a dog friendly cake skips all the preservatives and extra ingredients!
- It will help celebrate your pup's special day. These Funfetti Cookie Sandwiches are a fun way for your to celebrate along side your dog.
- This recipe is so quick and easy to make. You can have it in the oven in less than 10 minutes. My Fudgy Brownies are just as quick if you're looking to satisfy your own sweet tooth!
- It is a small dog birthday cake recipe. Most puppy birthday cake recipes are for large cakes, this one is great single dog cupcake for any size dog breed.
Ingredients

- The egg will hold the dog cake recipe together and is a great source of nutrition for dogs.
- Peanut Butter will add flavor to the cake (what dog doesn't love peanut butter?) and provide healthy fat. Find a brand that does not contain xylitol, it is toxic to dogs. I highly recommend using a natural peanut butter made with only peanuts and salt. You can use the extra peanut butter to make these Peanut Butter Chocolate Lava Cakes!
- Apples also add flavor and are a good source of vitamins. Be sure to remove the core and seeds completely.
- If used in moderation, diluted, and baked, as it is in this canine birthday cake, baking powder is perfectly safe for dogs. It will help the cake to rise, but you are welcome to leave it out if you'd like.
See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.
Substitutions & Variations
- If you would rather not use apples, substitute them with pear. It is also safe for dogs to eat.
- You can substitute the peanut butter with almond or cashew butter.
- The baking powder can be left out if you don't want to use it, but the finished product will not rise as much and may be a little dense.
- You can bake the cake in a bone shaped or other design baking pan.
- If you're into cake decorating and want to add some frosting you can make homemade whipped cream with only heavy whipping cream and make this a Pinterest perfect dog birthday cake!
- You can also use plain greek yogurt to ice the dog cakes. I'd just be sure to use plain and not flavored to avoid extra sugar.

Best puppy cake!! It was so easy. I have made several pup cakes. I could smell all of the wonderful flavor in it. The cake is very moist and doesnβt need any icing. My 5 yr old sheepadoodle inhaled ( or tried to) the cake off the antique china plate. I would send a photo if I knew how. lol. . PS I used a Granny Smith apple & I never leave comments β¦ well done!

This makes me so happy! I'm glad to be a part of helping you spoil your pup!

Super easy to bake with current pantry items! I skipped on the baking soda and it still turned out beautifully. Recipe serving for 3 was perfect for a six portion muffin tin plus one ramekin. Great recipe! Thank you!

So glad it turned out well!

So easy to make! Made this for my mini dachshundβs first birthday and I shaped it in a bone shape. She loved it and so did her brother and cousins! Will be making it for her brotherβs birthday too. I made the x2 servings and I think itβll be their treat for the next 5 days.
Ellie Haley says
The bone shape is so fun! I'm glad your pups enjoyed!

Could I use fresh blueberries or strawberries in place of apples? If so, how much? Canβt wait to bake this!
Ellie Haley says
I have never used either, but I don't see why it wouldn't work! I'd try half of a cup. I'd love to hear how it turns out!
Amy says
can I use a banana instead of an apple? if so how much banana do I need to use for 3 servings?
Ellie Haley says
I think a banana would work in place of an apple. I would probably use 1.5 to 2 bananas. I'm interested to hear how it turns out!
Lisa says
Made using applesauce instead of banana (pup doesn't care for banana) and she loved it. I made mini pupcakes since she's a yorkie and we decorated with the frosting and a blueberry on top. CoCo devoured hers and her "guests" loved theirs as well.
Ellie Haley says
Love that!
Meredith says
So easy and my dogs absolutely loved it! So much better, healthier than any store bought cake or birthday biscuits that I have ever purchased. Definitely make again

Love this recipe...Bella does too! But how much is 1/2 an apple? 1/2 cup? More? Less?
Ellie Haley says
It depends on the size of apple used, but it's usually about 1/2 a cup to 1 cup.

I made this for my Beagle's 4th birthday the other day. He LOVED it! I have never seen him so excited about a treat. I am making round 2 right now to freeze for Christmas. I added some mini blueberries and cinnamon. This will be in our rotation for special occasions! Thank you for this great recipe! Buddy thanks you, too. ππΎ

Thank you so much for this quick, simple, healthy, and delicious cake. I made it (in two little ramekins) for my mini dachshundβs birthday and she absolutely loved it. We humans enjoyed it with some vanilla gelato. Will definitely make again!

I love that y'all tried it too π I made it for my own pups birthday recently and my daughters enjoyed some of it as well!
Hannah says
Sounds very simple, healthy, and fun for my dog! Small question though, is there a certain size bowl I need to properly make this cake?
Ellie Haley says
For mixing? I usually just use a cereal bowl because it's such a small amount. For baking? I used a small ramekin but you can use any small baking dish.
Sophia Adams says
you need to make it in a ramakin which is a small dish
Savanna says
