Ingredients

For Caramel Apples:

  • 3 apples I used Granny Smith
  • 1 stick (113 grams) butter cubed
  • 1 cup (312 grams) light corn syrup
  • 2 cups (426 grams) light brown sugar packed
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • thin wooden dowels or toothpicks

Instructions

For Caramel Apples:

  • In a large saucepan add the butter, corn syrup, brown sugar, and salt. Cook over medium-high heat until the butter is fully melted and the mixture comes to a boil.
  • While the mixture cooks, wash and peel the apples, then use a melon baller to make small balls of apple. You should be able to get about 10-12 balls out of each apple.
  • Insert the small wooden dowels or toothpicks into each apple ball and set aside.
  • Add the sweetened condensed milk and stir constantly until the mixture reaches 245 degrees (F).
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla.
  • Dip each apple ball into the caramel. You can then dip in additional toppings or leave plain.
  • Serve soon after dipping.
